''Hey!'' Blaine Anderson yelled out, jogging up to Kurt Hummel and joining his hand in his like an lock and key, ''Mind if I join you?''
''Not at all,'' His boyfriend replied, his voice as warm as hot chocolate on a cold, winters evening, leaning in to peck Blaine's cheek.
Blaine smiled as he walked with Kurt to the back exit of Dalton Academy, they liked going that way because usually everybody else went out the front exit, causing Blaine and Kurt to be able to walk somewhat in privacy.
Kurt froze mid step as he consumed what was in front of him once he walked out of the door. Blaine watched as his eyes widen, he looked in front of him to see... Karofsky? What was he doing here?
Dave Karofsky was at Dalton Academy.
Dave Karofsky was at Kurt's safe place.
Blaine's grip on Kurt's hand tightened, meaning to let Kurt remember to have courage and to stay strong, which Kurt tried to do, but it was much harder then it seemed.
''Why, hello Dave... What are you doing here, if I may ask?'' Blaine asked as Karofsky walked closer to them, taking a step forward, taking in Dave's features, seeing the way his eyes were filled with rage. But when were they not?
''Get out of my way, Hobbit.'' Dave said with a sneer as he pushed Blaine out of the way, making him stumble, but thankfully catching himself.
The lump in Kurt's throat grew bigger as Dave walked up to him, his face now only inches away from his. Trying to keep his voice steady, he asked, ''What do you want, Karofsky?''
''You told Finn about what happen.''
''What?'' Kurt replied, trying to deny that he did, indeed, tell Finn about what happened in the locker room almost two months ago. He had too... He had to tell someone else besides Blaine...
''The kiss! You told Finn, about the kiss, didn't you?'' Dave answered, pushing Kurt hard against a wall, the wind in his poor, fragile chest getting knocked out of him.
Kurt stayed silent for a moment, but then said, ''H-how... How do you know?''
''He wanted to have 'a little talk' with me about it.''
''What-... What did you do to him?!''
''What do you think I did?''
Kurt then suddenly saw Blaine shove Dave as hard as he could, trying to get him away from his boyfriend, but only succeeding a little bit, having Dave only be pushed back a couple of feet. Dave then pushed Blaine back with all his strength, making Blaine fall to the ground, hitting his head hard on the concrete.
''Blaine!'' Kurt called out, only having Dave back up in his face. Courage, was the one word that raced rapidly in his head, he had to have it, he couldn't always run away from fear, he had to beat it, get over it.
He felt Dave's warm breath on his, giving him unpleasant chills, ''What are you going to do, huh? Beat me up like all of the other times? Go ahead.'' Kurt feared for the worse, but planned not to show it.
''No. I'm not going to do that...'' Dave said, his hands slowly going into his inside pocket of his Lettermen jacket. Leaving a slightly confused Kurt, ''I told you that if you told anybody, I would kill you.'' He finished the sentence with his teeth clenched, his eyes filled with aggravation. Kurt's head swam with ideas filled with horror of what Dave had in his twisted mind.
All of the sudden, Dave's hand nervously, and slowly, came out of his jacket and Kurt felt something placed on his chest, he looked down in terror to find a cold, sliver pistol.
Kurt made a wild gasp and just looked at Dave, his breathing rigid, his eyes wide. He couldn't believe that he would be doing this. Well, yes, Dave had a wicked, devious mind that Kurt would not want to visit in his lifetime, but still, this was out of line...
Dave was a scared little boy.
That was the reason he was doing this, he was just a scared little boy who was frightened of anyone knowing his secret. He was scared that if someone -even as stupid as Finn- knew, he would tell someone else, then that someone else would tell another person and so on and so forth. He was afraid that people (especially the football team) would treat him like dirt, treat him the way he treated Kurt when he was at McKinley. And even if he was the one doing most of it, he still didn't want that for himself.
He had beaten up Finn for knowing such a thing, so bad that he was left on the floor bleeding. But he had too... No one could know about what happened in the locker room with Kurt. No one had to know. It was no ones business.
''You... Y-You don't have to do this!'' Kurt said, his voice cracking,
''I can do whatever I want! I told you I would, and I don't lie.'' Dave replied, he really didn't have to do this, he didn't really want too... But he did say it, and he was in such a rage that he couldn't stop himself from getting that gun and heading out the door.
''You have lied to everyone that you're gay...'' Kurt answered back, only having Dave cock the gun and shove it even harder against Kurt's chest, causing him infernal pain.
''Shut up! You have no idea-''
Dave was interrupted by Blaine, who pushed him forcefully away from Kurt, stepping in front of him like a shield,
''What the hell do you think you're doing?!'' Blaine yelled at Dave, his dark brows knited together, his eyes now filled with little sparks of rage, but also washed over with protection.
''Doing what I should have done in the first place!'' Dave yelled back, gun still in hand, his voice slightly cracking.
''Dave... Look, there is no need for this! We can talk about this! I'll-... I'll help you...'' Blaine reassured, stepping in front of Dave and grabbing the nose of the gun, trying to carefully take it out of his hands,
''No!'' Dave cried out, then all at once, he lifted the pistol and forcefully pulled the trigger.
Kurt's ears rang as the bang from the gun exploded into the air, he felt like he was living in slow-motion as he suddenly watched as Blaine fell to the ground, a scream escaping both of their lips.
Kurt's knees buckled and he fell to the ground as well, tears invading his eyes, not making him able to see. He saw a blurred image of Dave walking up to Blaine.
Courage.
He suddenly got up off of the ground and raced to Dave like a rocket, pushing him with all his strength away from Blaine, making Dave surprisingly go back a good ten feet, making him drop the gun onto the ground. He then got up close and looked up at Dave, his eyes murderous, his cheeks heavily tear-stained, and his voice cracking, but filled with strength at the same time, ''Who the hell do you think you are?!'' Kurt was in a rage, this was probaby the maddest he has ever been. How dare this man hurt his boyfriend, the guy who loved him for him and gave him courage towards this man and his problems? He pushed Dave again. He wanted to raced to Blaine in aid, but was frightened of what he had in store for himself when he turned around to look. So first, he had to get them away from Dave.
Dave surprisingly did nothing while Kurt pushed him, which made Kurt confused, and even more mad at him at the same time,
''I swear, who the hell do you think you are to come here with a freaking gun and threaten to shoot me?!'' Kurt pushed Dave again, ''And to turn out shooting my boyfriend?!'' He started to punch at Dave's chest continuously, ''Why did you come here?! Did you come here because you don't like that we're gay?! No! That can't be the reason, because it's not like you're anything different!'' His arms slightly failing at this realization, his anger getting the slight best of him, ''You came here because you don't want people to bring you a life of pain, a life of pain that you gave me for two damned years straight!'' He stopped with the pushing, and looked at Dave in the eye, finishing his sentance, ''You came here because you are a coward!''
The air all the sudden was now coated with silence. He saw Dave's face change, like he somehow made him snap something in two in the Neanderthal's head. He watched as Dave's mouth opened, like he was about to say something, but then close. Dave then stuffed his hands in his Lettermen's pockets and walking away quickly, not saying a word.
Kurt didn't hesitate one second to run to Blaine, kneeling beside him, not caring about his clothes for once. He took in the pool of blood on the ground surrounding Blaine, he took in the bullet hole in Blaine's stomach, he took in everything. He couldn't help but to start slightly hyperventilating, tears blurring his vision again, letting them roll down his now pale cheeks like a small waterfall.
''Blaine... B-Blaine, can you hear me?'' Kurt quietly said, watching as his boyfriends chest raised up and down quite calmly, then seeing Blaine slightly nod his head yes, slowly opening his eyes with a groan.
''O-oh my God... Blaine...'' He bluntly started, taking his lovers hand, letting his blood coat his hand like a glove, ''Everything is going to be okay, I promise... I-I wouldn't let you not be okay...'' Kurt then reached for his bag, opening it and grabbing his iphone, dialing 911.
''911, what is your emergency?'' The woman on the other line answered, her voice in a dull monotone.
Kurt tried to keep his voice calm, ''My boyfriend just got shot, h-he needs to go to the hospital!''
The woman on the other end of the line asked for the location, then informed Kurt that an ambulance was on it's way to them, making Kurt sigh in relief. When he hung up, he grabbed Blaine's hand again, moving his thumb in circles, trying to comfort him. ''You... You shouldn't have jumped in front of me.''
''I had too...'' Blaine slowly replied, his voice weak, he looked up at Kurt.
''No you didn't! What if he shot you in the heart?! Y-you could have-... You could have-...'' Kurt shook his head, he couldn't say it, more or less even think about it...
''Die? I-... I could never fight for myself, back in my old school... So I promised myself that when it came to whom I loved, I would fight for them..." Blaine looked into Kurt's sea-green colored orbs, seeing that they were still covered with tears like a blanket.
''But... Jumping in front of a gun is a little much...'' Kurt replied, wiping his damp cheeks with the back of his hand,
Blaine couldn't help but to softly laugh, ''What can I say? People do crazy things when they're in love.'' Blaine smiled at Kurt, making Kurt smile back, giving a little squeeze to Blaine's hand,
''Only you would quote a Disney movie after being shot in the stomach.''
*******
After a moment of silence, quite comfortable silence, Kurt heard the ambulances sirens. Kurt looked down at Blaine, noticing that his eyelids where covering his hazel eyes. A wave of fright washed over him.
''Blaine!'' Kurt yelled, only to have no answer back from his boyfriend.
''Only you would quote a Disney movie after being shot in the stomach"
